Christenings

We will be happy to host your christening (or that of your children). This might be quite a lavish affair with champagne & caviar – or something as simple as a coffee with a pastry after church.

Birthdays: for little people

For children: why not use our cellar bar for that special daytime party? We can do the catering – or you can arrange that yourself. Tell us what you would like and your budget and we’ll be happy to give you some suggestions.  Don’t forget that Alison here makes the most fantastic cakes: each one is original and a work of art!

Birthdays: for bigger people

If you want to bop the night away that can be arranged. If you have a hankering for a themed evening, we are getting quite good at those. If you are just looking for somewhere to meet and have a cocktail or two before going clubbing in Oxford we can help there, too.

Birthdays: for the more genteel

If you have reached that age where a birthday is a milestone that you might prefer not to count, why not arrange a tea party at The Portwell Angel? Of course, one doesn’t have to stick to tea! And what are your favourite cakes? Perhaps a piece of Madeira with a glass of the same to wash it down?  Discretion will be applied where the number of candles on a cake might present a fire hazard!

Engagement Parties

You may want to have two engagement parties: one for the reli’s: a demure and civilised event and one for your mates which may not be quite as demure or civilised. The Portwell Angel can look after both – and promises not to tell!

Stag Parties

We just promise not to tell. Let us know what you’d like and we’ll endeavour to provide it. For example, we do a refined dry sherry that is seldom talked about and the Heaven on Earth organic sweet white wine is expensive – but really very nice!

Weddings

The Portwell Angel is close to All Saints church and a short stroll to Blessed Hugh’s and the other churches in town. The perfect place to meet before the wedding service – especially if the weather is being typically English!

 

And then, after the wedding, instead of driving somewhere why not stay in town? The Portwell Angel can comfortably provide a buffet for up to 50. We will be happy to design a celebration to suit you and your budget: be it a couple of pints and some pork scratchings at a fiver a head or some vintage bubbly with quails eggs and caviar at £55.00 per head. Your wish is our command!

Funerals

The end of the line for some and perhaps a staging post for those left behind: a time to simultaneously celebrate a life and commiserate a death. The Portwell Angel would be honoured to assist.
